Call

This workshop is a follow-up event to a panel organized by the University of Bamako and Maliwatch in 2010 at the Mali symposium on applied sciences. Some forty participants attended and there was an unanimous decision to set-up another panel in Mali. A decison was made to create the African Membrane Sociey which seeks to train a critical mass of experts in the field of separation sciences and liquid filtration all across Africa - website http://www.sam-ptf.com/en/index.html

This meeting will primarily focus on industrial fluid processing and membrane technologies for improving safe drinking water supply and wastewater treatment in Africa. A broader objective is to implement cost-affordable and sustainable separation systems that local communities find purposefull and user-friendly. Technical discussions target pertinent applications areas such as water treatment, blood transfusion, biopharmaceuticals, food and beverages, chemicals, mining, petrochemicals, and gas/oil refining. Experts from the industry, academia and the government will contribute to the panel which includes some training sessions, oral presentations, and a tour of Bamako's downtown water utility -pending SOMAGEP agreement. A third day will be devoted to scientific research. The list of instructors for this training will be published in April 2012. The 2012- 2013 planning of activities for the African Membrane Society - will be included in the meeting agenda.
